We’ve all forced our friends to play “beauty parlor” when we were kids, haven’t we?
From the time I was five years old, I knew I wanted to be a part of something glamorous. I didn’t know what it should be, but it would be something that would allow me to “sparkle”. Something that could transform and help people.
I was always the wanna be model girl with the beauty pageant tricks, (taping boobs together with duct tape to get cleavage). So, it figures my career journey would lead me down this path.
I started my skin care career fresh out of college, working for a prominent Dermatologist. It was here that my fascination with all things skin and beauty would grow. The doctor that I worked for encouraged my thirst for knowledge and endless questions about skin conditions. He even allowed me to dissect cysts that he had removed from patient’s bodies. Scalpel in hand, I wanted to know why the cyst was filled with the yellow waxy core, and why it had formed. I memorized skin conditions with textbook accuracy, not knowing that this information would come in use later in life…
Fast forward to last July, when I woke up one day with the conviction that the only thing in life for me to do career wise was to open my own skin care center and spa. Luckily, about twelve years ago, while living in Los Angeles, I decided to attend Esthetician school. I graduated and received my license in both California and Pennsylvania.
This series will follow the ups and downs of me starting my own skin care spa in Pittsburgh, PA. I’ve operated online businesses before, but never an actual “brick and mortar” store. In my next post, I’ll get you up to speed on what’s happened so far. Unfortunately, it’s not much, but I do have what I think is a perfect location and a signed lease. Best of all construction starts this Monday!
Welcome to my beauty journey. Learn with me. It’s nice to have you along for the ride…
